Client:

Contemporary Artist

Year:

1986

(b. 1986, Ethiopia) is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice traverses video, installation, painting, photography, text, and found materials. He holds an MFA in Contemporary Art from the Tromsø Academy of Contemporary Art and Creative Writing, University of Tromsø, Norway (2017), and a BFA from the Alle School of Fine Arts and Design, Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia (2012).
Belete’s work delves into themes of memory, identity, history, spirituality, and cultural heritage, often reflecting on the ways in which historical narratives intersect with personal and collective experiences. Through layered compositions and dynamic visual juxtapositions, Belete explores how intangible histories materialize in contemporary consciousness.
By incorporating archival materials, historical texts, and traditional motifs into his work, Belete examines the fluidity of cultural identity and the lasting imprints of migration, displacement, and colonial histories. His evocative and texturally rich works invite viewers to engage with history as a living, evolving force—one that continuously shapes and reshapes our present realities.
