Tesfahun Kibru

born in 1978, is an Ethiopian artist renowned for his innovative use of recycled materials in sculpture and mixed media art. He graduated from the Alle School of Fine Arts and Design in 2000, where he studied under Bekele Mekonnen. Tesfahun co-founded Netsa Art Village, a collective that fosters contemporary art in Ethiopia.
His work often incorporates discarded objects such as metal, rubber, leather, wood, and clay, reflecting his commitment to sustainability and commentary on daily life in Addis Ababa. Notably, Tesfahun has utilized his own shorn dreadlocks in his art, exemplifying his personal connection to his creations. Tesfahun's art is characterized by a series of discoveries, aiming to connect with everyday experiences and materials. His piece "Skin Matters" exemplifies this approach, using animal skins sourced from Addis Ababa's Mercato market to explore cultural and material significance.
In 2018, Tesfahun held an exhibition at Yucca House in Addis Ababa, showcasing sculptures made from scrap metal and paintings utilizing rust as a medium. This exhibition highlighted his technical skills and dedication to experimentation and improvisation.
