Tafari Teshome

Tafari Teshome was born in 1976 in Addis Ababa. In 1999 he obtained his BFA from the School of Fine Arts and Design at Addis Ababa University.
In addition to his work as a painter, Tafari was a designer for Tarik Adv. & Promotion between 2000 and 2003 and a graphic design consultant, notably for Oxfam Canada.
Teferi Teshome's work has been featured in several newspapers and magazines such as “The Reporter”, “Addis Zena”, “Ethiopian Herald”, “Kal-Kekan” and “Capital”, and several programs on the FM97-1 radio station and on Ethiopian television channels have already been dedicated to him. Teferi Teshome is enjoying growing notoriety, particularly in West Africa where he has participated in international exhibitions, notably in Nigeria and Ghana with the artist Martha Menguistu. In 2006, her works were selected by the organizers of a contemporary art foundation in Germany and published in the catalog “Kunst Einer Modern.” 

Her favorite subject has always been the pottery women of Kechene, Ethiopia. For Tafari, whose mother was a potter in Kechene and played a significant role in her education, creating with earth, water, and fire is one of the foundations of traditional Ethiopian society. Pottery symbolizes identity, a sense of belonging to the land of one’s origins. Her painting is an allegorical approach to the concept of “motherland,” “homeland.”
