Solomon Wolde

Solomon Wolde is an artist and architect from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. His art is largely inspired by his childhood memories of growing up in a peaceful and idealistic community. Much of his art underscores the concept of adbar, a word from the ancient Ethiopian language Ge’ez, symbolizing love, peace, harmony, justice, and motherhood. In Eternal Echoes II, Solomon Wolde conceptually and formally focuses on the forces women wield as guardians of the community.
This work features fascinating colors that help capture the harmony between the physical and the mystical as well as the past and the present. Five female figures are set against a backdrop of fragmented, compartmentalized architectural abstraction, creating a sense of mystery and otherworldliness. The stylized figures function as an homage to women and motherhood, depicted in their finest clothes and with a demeanor reflecting their elegance, strength, and wisdom. Drawing inspiration from traditional African textiles, Wolde blends this heritage with crystalline structures to navigate beyond the constraints of physical reality and commune with ethereal realms of ancient wisdom.
