Samson Meressa

Samson Meressa is an Ethiopian artist born and raised in Addis Ababa. His passion for art was nurtured from a young age, with his father taking him to art school in Addis Ababa to study painting. This early exposure profoundly influenced his life's trajectory, solidifying his ambition to become an artist.
He pursued formal education at Addis Ababa University's Ale School of Art, earning a high honors diploma in Mural Art after four years of study. Later, he returned to academia to further his career, obtaining a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in painting from the same university. During his time at the university, he developed a series of paintings under the title "Roots," a theme he continues to explore. These works are created using charcoal, pastel, and ink on cardboard, mediums through which he expresses his fascination with the power and magic of drawing.
Meressa's art is deeply inspired by nature, particularly the natural shapes and lines found in tree branches. He views nature as the root of all life, emphasizing the essential connections between humans and the natural world. This perspective is central to his artistic commentary, reflecting his belief in the fundamental bond between humanity and nature.
Throughout his career, Meressa has exhibited his work internationally, participating in exhibitions and gaining experience in countries such as France (Paris), the USA (New York), Ireland (Dublin), Germany (Leipzig), Tunisia (Monastir), Egypt (Cairo), Qatar (Doha), Sudan (Khartoum), and Serbia (Silver Lake). His contributions have been recognized with various trophies, medals, awards, and certificates from multiple institutions.
In addition to his artistic endeavors, Meressa is the founder of the Ethiopis TV program and serves as the Art Director, artist, and producer of ETHIOPIS TV on EBS Television. Meressa's work continues to captivate audiences, offering a profound commentary on the intrinsic connection between humans and nature through his distinctive artistic lens.
