Rafaela Fekadu is a visual artist (B. 2003) based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, graduated with BFA from Alle School of Fine Arts and Design. Her work explores themes of femininity, safety, and identity within contemporary urban and social environment with different mediums such as paintings, woodcuts, collage and digital illustrations. Her painting style draws inspiration from the old Ethiopian church paintings. She has been developing characters within those same traits and enjoys the story telling factor that the Ethiopian church paintings have.
Drawing from personal experiences and collective narratives, she uses symbolic materials such as flowers, rocks, and natural textures to reflect on the complexities faced by women in both public and private spaces. She working on developing her artistic language, committed to creating works that provoke reflections on gender, resilience, and self-definition.
