Michael Hailu

born in 1999 in Ethiopia, is a contemporary visual artist known for his interdisciplinary approach, encompassing mixed media, photography, video, and installation art. He graduated from the Ale School of Fine Arts and Design at Addis Ababa University in 2022. Currently, he resides in Vienna, Austria, where he was awarded a prestigious scholarship at the University of Applied Arts.
Hailu's work critically examines societal norms, particularly focusing on themes of gender and identity. He often uses himself as a muse, portraying himself in various female postures and figures to question traditional gender roles and explore the concept of gender as a social construct.
