(b. 1988, Dessie, Ethiopia) is a contemporary Ethiopian visual artist known for his evocative and psychologically charged figurative paintings. He specializes in oil and ink on canvas, using the human form as a primary vessel to explore the complexities of the mind, emotions, and identity.
Tilahun earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting from Addis Ababa University in 2012. Since then, he has been actively contributing to Ethiopia’s art scene, participating in both solo and group exhibitions. His work is characterized by expressive, distorted figures in dynamic and unconventional poses, reflecting the ever-changing and fluid state of human consciousness. Through his art, he investigates themes of introspection, emotional depth, and the tension between reality and imagination.
He has exhibited in prestigious venues such as the Ethiopian National Museum, Alliance Française Ethiopie, Guramayne Art Centre, and multiple editions of Art of Ethiopia. His work has also been featured internationally, earning recognition for its thought-provoking approach and intricate visual storytelling.
Currently based in Addis Ababa, Leayne Tilahun continues to push the boundaries of figurative painting in Ethiopia, using his art as a means of exploring the psychological and emotional dimensions of human existence.
