Heruy Aregawi

Heruy Aregawi is a visual artist based in Washington, D.C. His work is rooted in a deep sensitivity to place—responding to the spirit of the spaces that surround him, both old and new, and the emotions they evoke.
Graduating in 2012 with a degree in Painting from the Alle School of Fine Arts and Design in Addis Ababa, Heruy creates works that are both intuitive and reflective. His paintings often dwell on fading moments, weathered textures, and human faces—elements that are close to his heart and stir his curiosity.
Each piece is a layered process of exploration—part therapy, part storytelling, and part playful experimentation. For Heruy, painting is a way to make sense of the world, and sometimes, to simply sit with it.
