Cherinet Weldegebreal

As an artist, Cherinet Weldegebreal graduate of Alle School of fine arts and design, Addis Ababa University in 2004 specializing by Art education prioritizes ideas, "mulling them over before my brushes touch canvas." He believes the art of painting is a "grace-bestowed gift," and he is its "humble recipient, faithfully copying what is bestowed upon me."
Beyond the visual realm, he is also a recipient of the gift of poetry, "a treasure I truly relish." His poems traverse the spectrum of emotions, for therein lies the essence of poetic expression. "Serenity and turmoil coexist, both bearing inherent beauty." Through his paintings and poems, he manifests these convictions and sentiments, often "astonished" to find that certain works "appear detached from my own hand and pen," realizing he has "been blessed with inspiration."
His paintings, such as the renowned "Balageroch" series, "encapsulate truths, moments, joys, and hopes," serving as "a portrayal of both the present and a foreshadowing of the future." They are "born from the keen observations of the myriad beauties that grace my life’s journey."
The "Balageroch" series "simply captures the very essence of our nation, embodying the spirit of its people who are deeply connected to their homeland." These works, painted with the vibrant colors "passed down by our ancestors: green, yellow, and red," were created to "symbolize love, togetherness, and greatness." It is his "heartfelt desire that every Ethiopian finds unity under this shared banner and embraces it as a source of immense pride."
While his art is created from this profound spirit, He does not wish to confine the viewer's interpretation. "Art invites you to see it as it reveals itself to you, as you comprehend it." His work is an offering, a testament to the transformative power of divine grace and the deep-seated love of a balager for their flag and their homeland.
